Obituary of John Anson
John C. Anson, 59, of Hyde Park, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A lifelong area resident, he was employed as a Waste Water Plant Operator for Severn Trant Environmental Services, he retired in 2004. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1972. He was a member of American Legion Post 1302. He loved fishing, the Adirondacks and the outdoors. Born in Poughkeepsie on March 18, 1950, he was the son of Homer and Vivian Wagner Anson. He attended FDR High School. On July 28, 2000, he married Karen Plass at Howe Cavern in Cobleskill, NY. Mrs. Anson survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cara Lynn Anson of Poughkeepsie, his son and his girlfriend, Wayne Robert Anson and Mackenzie Ferris of Staatsburg; his brother, Bob Portios of Hyde Park; his sister, Sandy Hanson of Waterbury, CT; a nephew, Tommy Hanson of Waterbury, CT; a nephew, Davie Portios of Hyde Park; and a step son, John Burtis of Hyde Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 1302, DeGarmo Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
