Obituary of Walter Barry
Walter A. Barry, age 85, of Lagrange died Friday, November 19, 2010 at home. Mr. Barry was born June 13, 1925 at Worcester, MA, the son of the late Vladas and Victoria(Wolkowski) Barisas. He graduated from the Worcester Boys Trade School in June 1943, and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He studied for one year at the University of Cincinnati. He served as a B-25 Bomber pilot in WWII until October 1945. He also served two years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. After his discharge from the military, he worked as a tool and die maker for Telechron, General Electric, A&M Tool & Die Co., Millbury Tool Co., and Brookfield (MA) Machine, before coming to work for IBM, East Fishkill, in October, 1963. He retired as a manager in 1989 after serving 26 years in tool shops at IBM, East Fishkill. Walter married Florence Smith on June 29, 1946 in Worcester, MA. He is survived by his wife and two sons, John and his wife Patricia Latus Barry, of Hopewell Jct., Robert and his wife Pui Yee Barry of Essex Jct., VT, three grandsons, Matthew, of Molde, Norway, Michael and his wife Janice Piper Barry, Hopkinton, MA, and Derrick Wong of Manchester, New Hampshire. He was predeceased by a son John in 1954, two sisters Albina Karol, Anna Reardon and a brother Edward Barisas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 24, at 10:00am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
