Obituary of Joseph Calio
Joseph J. Calio, a resident of the town of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully at the age of 86, on October 29, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born on June 24, 1924 the son of Charles and Frances Filoia Calio. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1942 and joined the Army in 1943 during World War II. He served combat in Europe in the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. In addition, Joseph served in the National Guard 156th Battalion, based in Poughkeepsie for 30 years. Joseph worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 45 years, retiring in 1987. On October 25, 1958, he married the former Frances P. Lis. Joseph and Frances were the proud parents of four children, Charles and Marianne Calio of Poughkeepsie, Robert and Diana Calio of Red Hook NY John Calio of New Orleans and Predeceased by Alyssa-Jo Calio ( November 30, 2008 ). Joseph was the beloved grandfather of Nicole and her husband Patrick MacDougall, Heather, Joey, Mike, Elizabeth and John Calio and the great grandfather of Marie and Annelise MacDougall. Joseph is also survived by his sister Catherine Tignanelli and predeceased by his sister Josephine Dalia. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him. Calling hours will be held Monday November 1, 2010 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York 12603, from 4pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10am Tuesday November 2, 2010 at St. Martin DePorres Church Cedar Valley Road Poughkeepsie New York 12603. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery Poughkeepsie New York. The family would like to thank the staff, doctors, surgeons and caretakers of Vassar Brothers Medical Center for the dedicated care which was given to him during his hospital stay, and the staff of the Lutheran Care Center during his stay at the rehab center. They gave outstanding care to him and were terrific satisfying many of his requests and needs, for which we are grateful.
