Obituary of Helen Caston

Helen G. Caston, 92, a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, died October 26, 2009 in Arizona. She was a homemaker. Helen was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society as well a member of Schomre Israel, Hadassah, and Dutchess Country Club. She was previously involved with the Red Cross of Dutchess County. An avid bridge player, Helen received an award from the Jewish Welfare Fund for her outstanding leadership, service, and devotion. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on April 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Harris and Sarah Canter. She attended Poughkeepsie High School. On October 28, 1943 she married Leo Caston in New York City. Mr. Caston survives at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Hillary Caston of Laguna Beach, California; son, Harris Caston of Caracas, Venezuela; grandchildren, Charles, Jonathan, and Erica Caston and Brandon Weinberger; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Irene Caston and three brothers and one sister, Willis, Michael, and Morris Canter and Dorothy Canter Frank. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009, 10 am, at Schomre Israel, Park Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY with Rabbi Kaplan officiating. Burial will be in Schomre Israel Cemetery, LaGrange Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26787 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
