Obituary of Francis Chiavelli
Francis X.. Chiavelli, (Frank) born in Poughkeepsie on October 28, 1927, the son of Thomas and Concetta Bocchino Chiavelli, both of whom are deceased. He was also predeceased by his brother, Thomas (Chick) Chiavelli. He was a graduate of Mount Carmel School and attended Poughkeepsie High School. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Pfister Chiavelli. They were married in Frankfurt Am Main, Germany on September 13, 1960 and again on September 17, 1960 in Mount Carmel Church in Zellingen Am Main, Germany. He is also survived by his sister, Celeste Bettina of Saugerties and Norma Waldbilli(James) of Wappingers Falls; Dolores Moriarty (James) of Cape Coral, FL and his sister in law, Patricia Chiavelli of Poughkeepsie as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Japan with the Army of Occupation and was discharged in March, 1947. In February of 1950, he joined the US Air Force and served in Japan, Korea and Okinawa during the Korean War. He also served in the Azores, Germany, France and numerous bases in the United States, retiring from the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in June 1972. He then worked for the US Post Office in Poughkeepsie and Wappingers Falls and retired in December 1989. He was an Honorable Member of the Knights of Columbus Florentine Counsel #304 in Poughkeepsie; a member of the American Legion Post #65 in Delray Beach, FL, a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Disabled Veterans of American. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon (Saratoga National Cemetery) at 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. The family asks that memorial donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
