Obituary of Franco DeFranco

Franco DeFranco, a 47-year local resident, formerly of Rome, Italy, died January 14, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 79. Mr. DeFranco was a selfemployed tailor who previously owned Arlington Tailors in Poughkeepsie. He also worked at M. Schwartz and Company. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. His family meant the most to him. He loved being with his family and grandchildren, especially during the holidays. He also loved to sing Italian songs. Born in Lairo Burgo, Italy on December 2, 1930, he was the son of Giuseppe and Domenica Mandarano DeFranco. On January 18, 1958 he married Filomena D'Angelo in Lauria Potenza, Italy. Mrs. DeFranco survives at home. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Anna Lauria and her husband, Tony and Joe DeFranco and his wife, Janine, all of Poughkeepsie, NY; granddaughter, Kimberly Shirk and her husband, Nathan; grandsons, Anthony Lauria, Jr., Frank A. Lauria, and Biagio A. DeFranco; great-granddaughter, Addison Shirk; brothers, Romolo DeFranco of Genova, Italy; and Benedetto DeFranco of Calabria, Italy; and sister, Felicetta DeFranco of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was predeceased by two brothers, Fedele Mario DeFranco and Luigi DeFranco and a sister, Rosina DeFranco Longo. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 9:45 am, at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
