Obituary of Barbara Giampe

Barbara H. Giampe, 67, of a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Yale-New Haven Medical Center. She was a child care provider and a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the Victory Lodge of the Italian Center, the Women's Auxiliary of the Italian Center, the Women's Society of Holy Trinity Church, and the Red Hat Society. She also served on the Mid Hudson Children's Museum Board and the Executive Council of the Dutchess County Child Care Council. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church. She loved to read, garden and take care of children. Her family was everything to her. She was very family focused and very religious. Born in Beacon on March 12, 1942, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Ruth H. O'Keeffe. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary's High School and Dutchess Community College. She married Mario L. Giampe in New York City. Mr. Giampe survives at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, John L. Giampe of Poughkeepsie; her son and daughter-inlaw, Robert L. and Carolyn Giampe of Plantsville, CT; her daughter, Rebecca L. Giampe of Virginia Beach, VA; her stepdaughter, Melissa Martin of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Lelia N. Giampe, John L. Giampe and Kyle Martin; brothers, Dennis O'Keeffe of Poughkeepsie, William O'Keeffe of Beacon and Terry O'Keeffe of Knightsdale, NC. She was predeceased by a sister, Lynne Wallace in October 2009. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon, NY.
