Obituary of Carol Hauver

Carol Hauver, 67, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died March 16, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Hospital after a long illness. Her surviving sister, Gloria, and brother-in-law, John Van Voorhis, were at her bedside. Carol was born on March 6, 1942 in Poughkeepsie and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Hauver, Sr. She was also predeceased by her brother, Alan Hauver, and her sister, Joan Hauver. Carol attended Poughkeepsie schools and was employed by Poughkeepsie Dental Lab until her retirement in 1992. Carol was the beloved sister of Gloria Van Voorhis and was especially close to her sister's children, Kelly Smisko and husband, Robert of Hyde Park and Vincent Van Voorhis and wife, Deanna of the Town of Poughkeepsie. Carol enjoyed spending her holidays and celebrating with them and their children. She had seven other nieces and nephews whom she also dearly loved. Carol was a kind and gentle person who was an avid lover of photography, becoming the family historian in her own way. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Other survivors include her brother, William Hauver, Jr. and wife, Ann of Newport Richey, FL and sister-in-law Victoria Hauver of Port Ewen, NY. Carol had a special love for animals and was kind to all of God's creatures. In lieu of flowers, please remember her with donations to DCSPCA, Violet Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY. Services will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, Friday 11am1pm. Burial to follow immediately at Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
