Obituary of Madaline Hines

Madaline A. Hines, age 95, of Poughkeepsie, NY died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Hines was born August 22, 1915 in Poughkeepsie, NY the daughter of the late Anthony and Christina (Franco) Leo. A local resident all her life, Madaline was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School class of 1933 and the Wilfred Beauty Academy of New York. On April 18, 1937 at Mount Carmel’s Church in Poughkeepsie she married Joseph P. Hines Sr.; he predeceased her in June 2000. Madaline worked as a beautician in several beauty salons in Poughkeepsie, opening her own business, Madaline’s Door to Beauty, in 1954. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Women’s Society, Arlington Engine Company # 1 Ladies Auxiliary, Holy Trinity and Arlington PTA and the Professional Women’s Club of Poughkeepsie. Madaline volunteered her time providing hairdresser services to patients in local nursing homes. She enjoyed collecting frogs and angles, listening to big band music of the 40s and 50s, cooking and baking. She was also an avid Yankee fan and an active member of the Hudson Valley Model A Restorers Club. She is survived by three sons Joseph P. Hines, Jr. and his wife Karen, of Lagrange, Robert A. Hines and his wife Linda of Poughkeepsie, John V. Hines of Pleasant Valley, and a daughter Marabeth L Brandt and her husband Todd of Saugerties, and a predeceased daughter Tammi Christine Hines. She is also survived by grandchildren Kim, Russell, Michael, Daniel, Joseph, Melissa, John Paul and Tammy, as well as brother Lawrence Leo of Poughkeepsie, Anthony Leo of Milton, and sisters Mary Wilkins of Cary, NC, Dolores Garrison of Poughkeepsie, and Joan Leo of Hyde Park. Sister Rose DeStefano and brother John Leo predeceased her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother who devoted her life to her family, church and community. She will be missed, but the seeds that she has planted have and will continue to bear fruit. She touched many and that is her legacy. Calling hours will be Monday December 27, 2010 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Robert Repenning.
