Obituary of Howard Hopkins
Howard F. Hopkins, 88, a lifetime resident of Staatsburg, NY, died November 22, 2009, at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Mr. Hopkins was a mechanic for Central Hudson for thirtytwo and a half years, retiring in 1984. He served in the United States Air Force and was a past member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. He loved to fish, hunt, and work with his hands. He was a family man and lived for his children, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on July 8, 1921, he was the son of Garfield and Mae Lutz Hopkins. He attended Poughkeepsie schools. On April 16, 1950 he married Beverly Davis at St. Peter's Church, Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Hopkins predeceased him on March 23, 1993. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Fowler and her husband, Barry, of Staatsburg; son, John G. Hopkins of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, JoAnn Perotti and her husband, Daniel, of Staatsburg; granddaughter, Kristine Kortright and her husband, Todd, of Hyde Park; great-granddaughter, Nicole Kortright; brother, Robert Hopkins of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters, Gladys Hoban, Harriet Holt, Katherine Webber, Helen Morrison, and Beatrice Markle; and brothers, George Hopkins and Kenneth Hopkins. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, 11:00 am - 12:00 noon, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral services will follow calling hours on Wednesday, 12:00 noon, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 574 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
