Obituary of Marian Lavery
Marian E. Lavery, 86, of the Town of Poughkeepsie died at the Baptist Home on Monday June 14, 2010. Born in Poughkeepsie August 20, 1923 she was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Neuner Wohlfahrt. A life long resident, Marian was a Graduate of Nativity School and Poughkeepsie High School Class of 1941. On October 23, 1946 at the Nativity Church Poughkeepsie she married William J. Lavery, Sr. Marian was the Head Bookkeeper at 1st National Bank and the Secretary to Mr. Merison. She was a Member of the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, Dutchess County Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, and Played for the Championship Theresa Bake Shop Softball Team which played "Under the Lights." Marian was a 5 Time Women's Tennis Champion at the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club as well as the Champion of the City of Poughkeepsie Women's Tennis. She was an avid Athlete who enjoyed Bowling, Basketball Tennis and Golf. Marian even had a Hole in one on the 6th hole at Vassar Golf Course. She was predeceased by her husband in December 1988, survived by her son and daughter in-law William and Pamela Lavery Jr. of Poughkeepsie NY, son and daughter in-law Kevin and Ellen Lavery of Durham NC, Daughters Barbara Leerhsen, of Ossining NY, Judith Whalen, of Poughkeepsie NY and her daughter and son in-law Nancy and Joseph Bettina, of Pleasant Valley NY. Marian is also survived by her grandchildren; Jeffery and Timothy Lavery, Erica Leerhsen, Deborah Amundsson and Nora Leerhsen, Laura and Matthew Bettina, Christine and Ryan Lavery and great grandchildren Harrison Lavery and Annika Amundson, her sister inlaw Jo-Ann Wohlfahrt of Poughkeepsie NY and several nieces nephews and cousins. Marian was predeceased by her two brothers and a sister Frederick,Leonard,Jean Wohlfahrt and her two children Richard and Elizabeth. Calling hours will be held Thursday June 17, 2010 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 10am at St. Mary's Church Poughkeepsie with Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that Memorial Donations be made in Marian's name to St Mary's Church 231 Church St. Poughkeepsie New York 12601.
