Obituary of Elizabeth McCarthy
Elizabeth C McCarthy, 73, passed away peacefully at the Pines at Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer 's disease. Elizabeth was born on July 10, 1937, in Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Gorman. On 8/13/1960 at St. Helena's Church, Bronx, she married Patrick J. McCarthy, who predeceased her in 2009. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the Town of Poughkeepsie, where they remained, to start and raise their family. Elizabeth was a homemaker, raising four children. As the children grew older, she held a few miscellaneous jobs with IBM, Manpower and local retailers. Her passion was art. She enjoyed incised drawing (scratchboard) and painting with water colors. She was thrilled to be able to call herself an artist after selling quite a few pieces and to having earned awards at local art shows. She was member of St Martin DePorres Church. Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Ellen Hunter and her husband, Gary, Hyde Park, Ann McCarthy, Albany, NY, a son, Patrick T. McCarthy, Poughkeepsie, Sister-in-law, Rita Gorman, Manhattan, Brother-InLaw, Denis McCarthy and his wife, Sheila, Manhattan, and Grandchildren, Christine Hunter, Hyde Park, and Sean McCarthy, Poughkeepsie. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Gorman in 2009, and her daughter, Mary McCarthy in 2007. Calling hours are Friday, October 29, 2010, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 am, with burial to follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
