Obituary of Lawrence McGough.

Lawrence J. McGough Sr., 85, of Town of Poughkeepsie, died April 7, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He had been a machinist in Fort Monmouth, NJ and then worked for IBM in Fishkill and Burlington, Vt., retiring in 1987. A local resident for five months, he resided previously in Vermont. Mr. McGough served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace in Vermont. He collected rocks, coins and stamps. He was a newspaper clipper and had an interest in airplanes dating back to World War II. Born Aug. 18, 1923 in Navasink, NJ, he was the son of Peter A. and Mary Ann Nolan McGough. He was a graduate of Middletown, NJ schools. On May 21, 1949 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Highlands, NJ, he married Therese L. Blanchet, who survives at home. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane McGough, Colorado Springs, CO; daughter and son in-law, Terri and Mike Fiorillo, Poughkeepsie, NY; son, Paul McGough, Essex Junction, VT; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Pamela McGough, Fairfax, VT; grandchildren, Michael and Richard Fiorillo, Katina McCartney and Erik and Evan McGough; great grandchildren, Delanee McCartney, Kaitlyn McCartney , sisters, Helen Koeppen and Lucille Anthony; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Margaret Mulhurn, Anna McGough, Teresa Larkin and James McGough. Calling hours will be from 7-9pm on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10am at the Chapel at St. Peter's Cemetery. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY.
