Obituary of James Novarro
James V. Novarro, Jr., died Friday, September 25, 2009 at Victory Lake Nursing Facility. He moved to Poughkeepsie from Manhattan in 1972. Born February 24, 1953 in Republic Pennsylvania to James V. Novarro, Sr. and Helen Sekulitch Novarro. He attended Holy Cross School and LaSalle High School, Manhattan; was an avid ice hockey player, played many games at Madison Square Garden and worked for his family's moving business in Times Square. He held a variety of jobs in the Mid Hudson Valley, never met a stranger, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was admired for his love for animals. He is survived by daughter, Angela (Richard) McCallum, Raleigh, NC; son, Adam Novarro, Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Connor, Marisa McCallum; two sisters, Barbara (Ed) Gleason, Poughkeepsie; Rebecca Melendez, Myrtle Beach, SC; aunt, Mrs. Dorothy Gangi, Poughkeepsie, NY; nieces; Gina (Patrick) Mahoney, Poughkeepsie; Antoinette (Jimmy) Lambos, Poughkeepsie; nephews, Paul, Jr. Melendez, Myrtle Beach; Christopher (Christina) Melendez, Myrtle Beach; also survived by three great nieces, Jessica, Alicia and Aurora and five great nephews, Jimmy, Jr.; Joshua; Paul, Jr.; Christopher, Jr.; and Johnathan. Thanks to (nurses, caregivers) at Victory Lake assisted living, nursing home and Pat Martin at Hospice. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 10:30 to 12:30 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
