Obituary of Carter Porter
Carter L. Porter, 47, a longtime Poughkeepsie resident and previously of Pawling, passed away suddenly at home on February 27, 2010. Carter was born in Sharon, CT, on December 1, 1963. He was the son of the late Willie Lee Porter and Shirley L. Bryant Porter. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1982 and enlisted in the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1984. While he was in the Army, he received the Marksman Badge for M16 Rifle, Sharpshooter Badge, Hand Grenade, and Sharpshooter Badge for .45 Caliber Pistol. He was employed by several area businesses over the years before he formed his own company. In 1995 he started his original company called Cut Rate Lawn Service. He worked many long, hard hours to form the business, and built it into something he and his family could be proud of. He later renamed the business to Carter's Quality Lawn Care. He just recently turned the business over to his son Lamaar, who plans to follow in his father's footsteps by continuing to give the quality service his father did. After turning the business over to his son, he took a part-time position with the Poughkeepsie Journal Circulation Department. Carter was a devoted family man and spent many happy hours with his two children, whom he worshipped. He had a great sense of humor and could always make people laugh. He was very special! Andrea Beurgers, his teacher, his mentor, his special lady, gave him the will to forge on even when times were not the greatest. She was not only special to Carter, she is also special to his children Lamaar and Monique. They know she was the person in his life he could always depend on. They wish to thank her for helping make their dad the man he was. Survivors include his mother, Shirley L. Porter of Rich Square, NC; his beloved son and daughter, Lamaar J. Porter of Poughkeepsie and Monique R. Porter of Hudson, NY; his paternal grandparents, the Reverend Willie and Sarah Porter; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Ella May Bryant of Rich Square, NC; his father, Willie Lee Porter of Poughkeepsie; and a brother, Jachary Bryant of Poughkeepsie. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm with a memorial service to follow at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Cremation will take place Saturday, March 6, 2010. For directions or if you wish to send a condolence, please visit our website at www.doyle funeralhome. com.
