Obituary of Olympia Rau
Olympia C. Rau, 88, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A lifelong area resident, she was employed at Vassar College as a House Mother. Before that, she worked at Bennett College in the Food Service Department and as a clerk for Gladmore Cleaners. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Olympia loved to garden, plant flowers and knit. She always helped others and her family whom she loved and always came first. Born in Wingdale on April 18, 1921, she was the daughter of John and Mary Napolitano Taddeo. She was a graduate of Arlington High School. She married Oscar Rau Jr. in Tennessee in August 1944. He predeceased her on June 11, 2004. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Candace and Barry Ireland of Poughkeepsie; son and daughter in law, Richard and Gail Rau of Pleasant Valley; her grandchildren, Keith Ireland and his wife, Karen; Kimberly DiMaio and her husband, Pete, Lucas Rau and Abby Rau, as well as six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 9:45 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook.
