Obituary of Cora Robinson

Cora Evelyn Robinson, a 45-year resident of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Vestal, NY, died March 8, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 91. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She was a parishioner of Hyde Park Methodist Church and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Poughkeepsie and The Market Place in Hyde Park. Mrs. Robinson served as an elder of Presbyterian Churches in Binghamton, Vestal, and Poughkeepsie. She was the past president and treasurer of Poughkeepsie Area Presbyterian Women and was the past treasurer of Church Women United. Born in Saugerties, NY, on March 27, 1918, she was the daughter of Harold and Julia Smith. She was a graduate of Cortland Normal School and was a member of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority. On September 14, 1940, she married Hubert "Robbie" Robinson in Chenango Bridge, NY. Mr. Robinson predeceased her on November 6, 2001. Survivors include four daughter, Karen Silver and spouse Robert of Florence, SC; Donna Hawley and spouse Chuck of Walkersville, MD; Marja Robinson and life partner, Elizabeth Walak of Peru, MA; and Colleen Mallet and spouse, Brian of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Katrina Sorrentino and spouse, Richard, Todd Hawley and spouse, Suzy of Woodbridge, VA; Christopher Peters and spouse, Jennifer of Charlotte, NC; Jenifer Richardson and spouse Charles of Anderson, SC; Charly Mallet of Poughkeepsie; and Alix Walak of Peru, MA; great-grandchildren, Leah Sorrentino; Meghan, Cameron, and Collin Hawley of Woodbridge, VA; and Hudson Richardson of Anderson, SC; sisters-in-law, Frances Mosser of Conklin, NY and Elizabeth McCaleb of Dillsburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Smith and sons, David Hubert Robinson and Kevin Dale Robinson. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Hyde Park Methodist Church, Rt. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at the church on Thursday at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in the spring at the Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Vestal, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat of Humanity or Heiffer International. Arrangements are entrusted to the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
