Obituary of R. Shipley

R. Clay Shipley, 67, a resident of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on June 26, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He had been a US Post Office Mail Carrier for 17 years at the Poughkeepsie branch. He retired in 1995. He had also been a Dutchess County Resident for most of his life. He was a member of the VFW Post #170, American Legion Post #1467, and served in the US Air Force in Vietnam. He was also a member of the Arlington Reform Church, Poughkeepsie, NY, an avid bowler and hunter, and was well known throughout the area. He was born on November 2, 1942 in Mt. Braddock, PA, the son of Robert Shipley and Geraldine M. (Varndell) Shipley. He was a graduate of North Union High School, class of 1960. On October 31, 1992, he married Lois Shipley at the Arlington Reformed Church, Poughkeepsie. His wife predeceased him on December 17, 2004. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Jeffrey Clay Shipley & Michelle of Orlando, FL, his son and daughter in law, Timothy Reilly & Kimberly of Bushkill, PA, his brother, Brian Shipley of Poughkeepsie, three sisters, Jamie Stiner and Zona Butler, both of Lamont Furnace, PA and Sandy Cross of Daytona Beach, FL. His grandchildren, Andrew, Chris, T.J., Zachary and Jake who called him their beloved Pop-Pop, also survive him. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on July 1, 2010 at Poughkeepsie Rural Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will be at Poughkeepsie Rural Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
