Obituary of Gloria Sorrentino
Gloria L. Sorrentino, 88, a lifetime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on February 9, 2010. She was employed in the food service area of Vassar College, retiring in 1991. She was a founding member of the Marian Guild of St. Francis Hospital and was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. Her love of her family was the most important part of her life. She lived for her grandchildren, as they gave her the most joy in her life. She loved to cook, garden and sew. She was a beautiful seamstress. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on September 12, 1921, she was the daughter of Ernest E. and Mabel Constable Parker. On May 7, 1947 she married Frank A. Sorrentino in Sharon, CT. Mr. Sorrentino predeceased her on December 24, 1983. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria A. Fiore, son, Robert F. Sorrentino and his wife Gaye, and daughter, Lorraine Chapland and her husband, Victor, all of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren, Nicole and Joseph Fiore; Krista, Justin, Gae, and Jonathan Sorrentino; Frankie Chapland; John Scott Osterhoudt and Melanie Tarter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son and four brothers, Arthur L. Osterhoudt, Charles Emery Parker, Ernest Emery Parker , Allen Parker, and Wayne Parker. The family would like to thank Hospice for the care that was given to their mother. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 12, 2010, 9:45 am, at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
