Obituary of George Tanner
George F. Tanner, 74, a lifetime resident of the Town of LaGrange, died after a courageous battle with cancer on November 22, 2009, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Mr. Tanner was a tech for Texaco Research Lab, retiring in March 1994 after 39 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and was discharged in October 1962. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time in Chincoteague, VA at his second home, and solving word puzzles. He always helped people with home repairs and enjoyed being a volunteer at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on March 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Jezsu Tanner. He attended Poughkeepsie High School. On June 13, 1965 he married Renee Palmatier at St. John the Baptist Church. Mrs. Tanner survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David Tanner and his wife, Diane, of New Paltz; grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Tanner; sister, Frances Todd of Millbrook; nephew, John Todd; cousins, Daniel Takacs and his wife, Beth, John Enkler, Danny Jezsu, and Larry Takacs; sisters-in-law, Jean Brendline and her husband, Calvin, and Doris Glusenkamp; nieces, Michelle Pells and her husband, Jeff, Terri Odekirk, and Gayle Harrison; nephews, Robert and Paul Brendline; and many great-nieces and greatnephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothersin-law, Ronald Glusenkamp and James Todd; and mother-inlaw, Estelle Palmatier. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 4 to 8 pm, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, 10:00 am, at Blessed Kateri Church, Rt. 82, LaGrangeville, NY. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the D.C. S.P.C.A.
