Obituary of Eugene Tomlins
Eugene 'Gene" Tomlins born on Feb. 28, 1924, died peacefully at 85 years of age at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Sept. 28, 2009. Born in Roseton to Frank and Genevieve Tomlins, he attended Newburgh Free Academy before entering the service during World War II and traveling to Europe to defend his country. After returning, he worked as a foreman at Jova Brick-yard, until at a church dance he met and would go on to marry the love of his life, Edith Deak on June 6, 1953. The couple moved to Newburgh and then permanently settle down in Poughkeepsie, where Eugene worked as a plumber. A lover of nature, traveling and gardening, Eugene lived for the simpler, meaningful moments of life and although his favorite phrase was "Never get old", he never took a single day for granted. He was the most loyal and giving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather anyone could ask for. Eugene is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Aric and his wife, Nancy and Diane; his grandchildren, Kameko, Anthony, Ethan and Megan and his sisters, Marian and Margaret. He was predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn, Cordelia, Charlotte and Beverly and brother, Frank. Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements under the direction of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
