Obituary of Robert Weidler
Robert James Weidler passed away on May 23, 2010 at his home with his wife on almost 30 years by his side. At the age of 61, he succumbed to cancer after four years of illness. Born in Poughkeepsie on December 15, 1948, he was the son of George D. and Robert Weidler. Bob was a Dutchess county resident all his life. He was a 1966 graduate of Arlington High School. He also attended Marist College. Although not one to sit in a classroom, Bob furthered his education in various fields including computer drafting. From the mid 60's to the late 70's he worked in retail businesses taking great pleasure working with the public. After 26 years of dedicated employed to the Commons at Cedar he retired in 2005. He felt much enjoyment and satisfaction caring for and interacting with the families that lived there. Bob took great pleasure in enjoying the simple things in life. His vacations with his wife were spent camping, traveling, and following the NASCAR circuit. Time spent with his children and grandchildren fishing, flying kites and simply talking. His hobbies included woodworking, computer repair and photography. On July 5, 1980 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley, Robert married Jan Feroe who survives at home. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Balis and her partner, Christopher Green, grandson, John Paul Balis, granddaughter, Ashley and husband, Eric Wolfe, brother, George Weidler and his wife, Grace McKinney and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his inó laws, Bev and Harold Feroe, brother in law, and his wife, Dave and Anne Feroe as well as many cousins, close friends and people who will miss him. Bob was predeceased by his son, Jonathan S. Weidler, his brother, David G. Weidler and father, George D. Weidler. Bob's family would like to thank Hospice and Hudson Valley Hematology-Oncology for their much needed compassion and care. The family will receive their friends on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a service beginning at 5:30 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. His cremains will remain with his wife and no further services will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the animal shelter or rescue group of your choice.
