Obituary of Donald Wisseman

Donald E. Wisseman, age 90, Lagrangeville died Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. Mr. Wisseman was born March 16, 1920 in New York City, the son of the late Henry and the late Mary Alice Bettencourt Wisseman. He married Ruth Jean Wright May 18, 1947 at Trinity United Methodist Church Poughkeepsie. Donald owned the Wisseman Brothers Dairy Farm in Unionvale New York with his three brothers. Donald’s father started the farm in 1920 and in 1947 til 1979 ran the farm with his brothers, Henry, Carl and Wilbur. Donald was involved in Political Offices in Unionvale for over 40 yrs. Town Councilman from 1955 to 1966, Town Supervisor from 1966 to 1981 and from 1988 to 1995. Don also served as Highway Superintendent from 1981 to 1988. He was a Charter Member of the Mid County Rod & Gun Club, member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Life Member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275. Don was a Pro Pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team, was inducted into the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame. He loved to fish, going on many fishing trips to Canada and enjoyed bowling. He is survived by his wife: Ruth Jean Wright Wisseman at home, two sons: Donald E. Wisseman Jr. of Lagrangeville, NY, Barry L. Wisseman of Lagrangeville, NY; his Daughter and Son In-law, Mary L. and John Duval of Lagrangeville, NY. Grandchildren, Michael, Breann, Carrie Wisseman and Ryan Duval. He is also survived by several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his three brothers Henry, Carl and Wilbur Wisseman. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00am at Trinity United Methodist Church, Cross Road, Lagrangeville with Rev. Amanda Marie Iahn officiating. Burial will be in Trinity United Methodist Church, Lagrangeville. Memorials may be made to Unionvale Rescue Squad Route 82 Unionvale New York. Arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P.
