Obituary of Russell Yergey
Russell G. Yergey, Sr. entered into Heaven with his guitar to play for the angels on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. Born May 5, 1920 in Redding, PA, he was the son of Grover and Mary Latimer Yergey. On January 25, 1954 he married June Linnartz. She survives at home. Together they raised five children, Mary and her husband Bill Longfield of Lagrange, NY, Russell and his wife Pat Yergey of Lagrange, NY and Sharlene Calabro of Lagrange, NY. Russell was predeceased in life by a daughter Carolyn King and a son Richard Yergey. He was loved by all and leaves behind his daughter in-law, Joyce Yergey of Hyde Park NY, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces , nephews, cousin and friends whose lives were touched by him. Russell was and avid gardener, bowler, fisherman, repairman; a basic jack of all trades. His only passion was his love of music. He was a member of a band that played various dance halls in Dutchess County. In the 1940's and 1950's on Saturdays he could be heard with his band on WKIP. He was a life member of the Lagrange Volunteer Fire Department # 2, a member of the Oak Grove Grange and IBM Quarter Century Club. He worked for the former De Laval Corp from 1040 to 1955; from there he went to work at IBM Poughkeepsie retiring after 26 years of Service in 1986. Memorial services will be held 2 pm Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church, Route 55, Lagrangeville, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Russell's name to the American Cancer Society Funeral Arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P.
