Obituary of MaryEllen Sheridan

MaryEllen Sheridan, 66, of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., passed away on May 31, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by her children and husband. Born in NYC on September 19, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Irene Flannery and James Trunk. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, in Hyde Park, N.Y. She was first married to Philip Benante Jr. and later married William Sheridan who survives her at home. Before retiring, MaryEllen was employed for over 30 years as a social worker at Hudson River Psychiatric Center, where she took great joy in helping others. She is survived by her children Jennifer Sullivan of Fishkill and Philip Benante III of Pleasant Valley, and their spouses, Patrick and Kerri; and her step-daughter Shawna Sheridan of Pleasant Valley; her grandchildren, Cole, Finnley, Keagan, Kieran, Luke, and Jordan; her sisters and brothers Peggy Bertozzi of CT; Susie Talbot of North Carolina; John Trunk of Staatsburg; Jimmy Trunk of Pleasant Valley; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Irene and brother William many years ago. MaryEllen had a very giving heart and took great pleasure in helping others. She was known to be a frequent blood donor and a good friend to many in the community. Calling hours will be on Friday, June 3, from 10-12, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with a service for family and close friends following the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in MaryEllen's honor may be made to the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, which provided her with a safe and nurturing environment throughout her childhood.
