Obituary of John Lainis

John P. Lainis, 92 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at home. John was born on May 20, 1924 in Tritea Parnassidos, Greece to the late Peter Lainis and Astero Tsakiris. He married Constantina Gioulos on November 6, 1963 in Zografou, Athens, Greece who survives at home. A local resident since 1951, John was a chef at Vassar College until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Kimisiss Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed reading and gardening. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters Esther Lainis and son-in-law Anastasios Patmanidis and Maria Lainis, both of Tenafly, NJ., three sisters, Eleftheria Sites, Themi Koutsoumichou and Effie Karambetsos all of Athens, Greece, sister-in-law Boula Alexandris and husband Nicholas and brother-in-law Themois Gioulos and wife Dina also from Athens, Greece as well as several nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his brother Constantinos Lainis and sister Kaliope Kastriotis. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 20, 2016 at 10am at the Kimisiss Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
