Obituary of Domenica Nardi
Domenica Carmelina Nardi, daughter of late Luigi and Iolanda Sicilia of Carolei, Italy, peacefully passed away in her home September 7, 2016, after a short, unexpected illness. A long time Hyde Park resident, Carmelina, 68, was born on August 28, 1948 in Carolei, Italy. There she attended school and obtained seamstress training at Scoula Professionale Di Taglio in 1965. Survived by her loving husband, Giuseppe Nardi, they were school age friends that started courting at age 16, marrying at 21, on December 20, 1969.
In 1970, Carmelina and Giuseppe moved to Bronx NY, and then to Hyde Park, NY in 1973. Carmelina was an active, dedicated, and faithful Jehovah's Witness, attending the Kingdom Hall in Hyde Park for over 35 years. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers and vegetables she gardened so well, and her influence will forever remain in the hearts, and gardens, of all her knew her. In 1973, together with family, Carmelina and Giuseppe opened R&A Restaurant in Hyde Park. In 1981, the couple opened Luigi's Pizzeria in Hyde Park, NY and then moved it to Wappingers Falls, NY where Carmelina and Giuseppe worked until retirement in 2013. After retiring, Carmelina spent time working in her sister's family's restaurant, Volare, located in Carmel, NY.
Carmelina's memory will be cherished by her surviving 3 sons and their wives, Frank and Elizabeth Nardi (Matthews, NC), Joseph and Julie Nardi (Poughkeepsie, NY) , and Luigi and Sheena Nardi (Stallings, NC). Also by her 2 loving grandsons, in which she loved more than life itself, and who proudly called her "Nonna", Jovani and Andreo Nardi (Poughkeepsie, NY).
Carmelina was the oldest of 5 siblings, and is survived by her brothers and sisters along with their spouses: Giuseppe & Immacalata Sicilia (Carolei, Italy), Rose & Angelo Mazzotta (Patterson, NY), Ana & Michele Filice (Cosenza, Italy), Franco & Franca Sicilia (Carolei, Italy). Carmelina was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends, customers, and extended family members that loved her. She will be greatly missed.
A public funeral talk will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 160 Crum Elbow Rd, Hyde Park, NY 12538. In lieu of flowers, plants may be sent to 14 Douglas Rd, Hyde Park NY where family will be making a memorial garden in her honor.
