Obituary of Helene Brusie

Helene Brusie, 93, a resident, all of her life, from the Town of Poughkeepsie, died on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. She was a Nurses Aide at Vassar Hospital and Wassaic State School, then went to work at Central Hudson Poughkeepsie, NY, retiring in October of 1975. Helene attended Poughkeepsie Schools, was a member of the AARP, Holy Trinity Church, and enjoyed cooking, sewing and Hosting Parties. Born March 10, 1915 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of John and Catherine Michon Babiarz. On June 3, 1939, she married John Brusie in Millbrook, who predeceased her on February 4, 2008. Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Travis and her three children, (Rich of Wappingers Falls and his son Corey of Fishkill; Kevin of Ohio and Colleen and her husband, Keith Axelrod of LaGrangeville, and their three children, David, Danielle and Christopher); son, Bob and his wife, Leslie Brusie and their two daughters, (Alyson Ferris and her husband, Jaime, all of Poughkeepsie, and Melissa Brusie of Washington, DC); daughter-inlaw, Doris Brusie of Wappingers Falls and her two daughters, (Kelley Pushong and her husband, Chris and their two sons, Justin and Ryan, all of Highland; and Kim and her husband, Geoff Gendron, and their daughter Miranda, all of Clinton Corners). Helene was predeceased by her son John L. (Jack) Brusie and son in-law Richard C. Travis, she was also predeceased by her, brothers and sisters, Bertha Babiarz, Elizabeth Babiarz, John, Joe and Steve Babiarz. We will miss the Love and Affection she had for all of us, and her since of Humor That Always bought a smile to our face. The family would like to thank the staff on Floor 4A of the Ferncliff Nursing Home for the care that was given to Helene. They would especially like to thank Bridgette Martell for her devotion to and excellent care of Helene. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 10, from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 9:45am at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, NY.
