Obituary of Louise Burke
Louise C. Burke, a longtime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died on August 29, 2008 at her home. Born on May 15, 1934 in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Arlene Monaghan. On December 26, 1953, she married Frank R. Burke at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, NY, who lovingly cared for her during her long illness and survives at home. She was a long time communicant of Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, NY, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD for many years. In her earlier years, she was a Brownie leader at Kreiger School and had a love for tennis, softball and ice skating. She was always available to give council and assistance to those in need. She had a devout Catholic faith which sustained her through her years. She was predeceased by three sisters, Anna May Pullman, Mary Patricia Graham, and Ruth Arlene Griffin, and a stepbrother, Fred Jeschawitz, Jr., all of Utica, NY. She was a loving and devoted mother to her four children, Mary Ellen Burke of Coram, NY, John Burke and Linda Tully, both of Poughkeepsie, NY and Sharon Burke of Brooklyn, NY and her son-in-law, David Tully; her grandchildren, Melanie and Jeffrey Harris, Noah and Amanda Startup, Daniel Startup, David Tully, Jr., Dylan Tully, Devin Tully and Brendan Tully as well as her great grandchildren, James Pickles, Sierra and Anna Harris and Isabella Startup, and many nieces and nephews in the greater Utica, NY area. She had a large extended family, including Andrea Purcell of Poughkeepsie and her family, who lovingly cared for her for many years. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 4-8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 9:45am at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations in Louise's name may be made to Holy Trinity Church, Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
