Obituary of William Burke

Colonel William J. Burke, passed away August 31, 2011 in Longview, Texas. He was born February 20, 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut and was the beloved husband of Lolda Palmer Burke for 72 years. A retired US Army Colonel, he attended Vassar College after WW2, graduated from the Army War College and from the US Army Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas. He went on to teach scores of military officers in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Kingston, NY and Fredericksburg, MD. Also, he had a distinguished career in IBM as head of safety and security for the Federal Systems Division in the Washington D.C. area. Loved by Daughters: Wilma Jocelyn Burke and husband Andrew A. Suto; Dr. Wendy J. Burke and husband Keith M. Stack; Son: William J. Burke; Grandsons: Douglas B. Neyer, David B. Neyer and Julian P. Douthitt; and Great grandsons: Devin B. Neyer and William Dow Douthitt. He was loved and will be in our hearts forever. Services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11:00am at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
