Obituary of Harriet Burroughs

Harriet K. Burroughs, 92, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A Poughkeepsie resident for most of her life, she was a Practical Nurse at Craig House in Beacon. She also worked at the DeLaval Separator Co. in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of Alpha -Celene. She was also a member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. An avid crafts person, she also enjoyed canning, sewing and gardening. Born in Stone Ridge, NY on July 20, 1916, she was the daughter of Francis H. and Laura D. Vandemark Kortwright. She attended Wappingers High School. On Oct. 21, 1955 in Beacon, she married E. Wilson Burroughs,he predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by cousins, James R. VanTassell of Hyde Park, Ray Vanwagner of Willow New York as well as Niesces Lucy Malone and Ann Piccone of Beacon New York. There are no calling hours. Burial in Crum Elbow Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, New Hackensack Road, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
