Obituary of Esther Catanzaro

Esther G. Catanzaro, 90, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away September 14, 2011 at home. She was born on May 30, 1921 to Pasquale and Delores Palmeiri Martell in Poughkeepsie. In 1946 she married Richard S. Catanzaro Sr. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. He predeceased her in 1995. Esther was a Poughkeepsie High School graduate of the class of 1935 and she attended Beauty School in New York City. She worked as a beautician for Bruno’s Hair Salon and worked in quality control for Smith Brothers in Poughkeepsie. Esther was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. She was a devoted Catholic who was always helping others. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 1302. Esther was a fantastic cook and made the best pizza and Italian bread. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife and the best Nana. She had undying love and concern for all others. Esther is survived by her son Richard S. Catanzaro Jr. of Poughkeepsie; son & daughter-in-law Thomas & Angela Catanzaro of Poughkeepsie; daughter and son-in-law Diane & Frank Williams of Pleasant Valley, NY; Grandchildren Jason & Tracy Williams, Jennifer & Todd Stapleton, Jeremy & Vanessa Williams, Kelly & Paul Ash, Nicholas Catanzaro, Anthony Giammatteo and Jacquelyn Catanzaro and great grandchildren Braeden Williams, Holden Williams, Dylan Ash, Reilly Ash, Leo Ash. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Jasmine the Golden Retriever and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Felice Martell & William Martell and three sisters, Helen Perrino, Evelyn Lawrence & Edith Mazzotti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00AM at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
