Obituary of Carlton Cummings
Carlton Lloyd Cummings, 65, a city of Poughkeepsie resident, died after a courageous battle of a long illness. Carlton was a business owner in the city for many years. Carlton was born in Poughkeepsie on May 10, 1944. He was the son of the late Hannah Patrice and Charles Schoonmaker, Sr., and son-in-law of Frances J. Williams and the late Oscar T. Williams. Carlton leaves behind to cherish his many memories, his loving wife of 45 years, Martha F. Cummings, at home. His children, Carlton L. Cummings, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Virginia Beach, VA; Cylee Cummings of Troy, NY; Nicole M. Cummings of Poughkeepsie; and Monica Gregory and her husband, Terry of Virginia Beach, VA. Two beautiful, loved and cherished grandchildren, Carlton L. Cummings III and his wife Shakia and Jan'el Cummings, of Virginia Beach. Also surviving are His Boys, Syd and Marcus Hill of Troy; his brothers, Garfield Cummings of Poughkeepsie; Rodger and his wife Lynette Patrice of Poughkeepsie; John and his wife Ruby Patrice of Boynton Beach, FL; Gregory and his wife Lorraine Patrice of Syracuse; Charles Schoonmaker, Jr. of Saratoga Springs; his sisters, Stacie and Wendy Schoonmaker; two aunts, Melissa and Shirley Henry and one uncle, Jerry Henry. Carlton was predeceased by his daughter, Monique H. Cummings; his brother, Eugene Cummings; and his sisters, Sharon Hill and Gail Schoonmaker. Carlton was also well loved and affectionately called: Pop, Cap, Boss & Poppy by his sissters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Carlton also enjoyed his special relationships with his spiritual brothers and sisters within the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. M. Lobo, who was not only his doctor, but a very devoted person; Dr. Kancherla and nurses, Diane and Cheryl, who gave special care to him as well at the Hudson Valley Hematology Oncology Center. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 5pm to 8 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Kingdom Hall, Daley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at Nine Partners Cemetery, Church Street, Millbrook.
