Obituary of Theodore Czyz

Theodore Czyz, age 56, surrounded by his family and friends, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was known to all that knew him as Teddy, Big Ted or Uncle Teddy. Mr. Czyz was born February 7, 1954 in Poland where he lived until he was 7 years old. He was raised by his loving parents, the late Walter and the late Martha (Kaczanowska) Czyz. Teddy grew up in Sunset Part Brooklyn where he attended St. Agatha’s grammar school. He then attended Power Memorial High School where he played the trombone in the High School Band. He started dating Nancy Atherholt on January 1, 1972 and eventually married her on October 12, 1975 at St. Agatha’s Church in Brooklyn. Nancy survives at home. Teddy was a dedicated father to three beautiful children, Amy Lee Czyz of Beacon, Theodore Walter Czyz of Beacon and Andrew Joseph Czyz of Fishkill. He is also survived by his extended family in Poland, is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. He retired from Green Haven Correctional Facility Stormville New York as a Corrections Lieutenant in April 30, 2004. While working at the Haven he made many friends for life. He was an active member of the Chelsea Fire Company. Teddy loved to fish, hunt, and travel and do Gold Panning and he was an avid Yankee Fan Calling hours will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY, a Firematic Service by the Chelsea Fire Department will be held during the visitation. The funeral will be held Friday at 10:00am in the Funeral Home. Burial will be Private and at the convenience of the family.
