Obituary of Thomas G. Daley
Thomas G. Daley, 79, of Poughkeepsie, died May 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Beacon, New York, he was the son of Thomas E. and Katherine McCarroll Daley.
On July 26, 1952 at St. Josephs Church in Poughkeepsie, Tom married his High School sweet heart Janice Marie Bub.
Tom was educated at Roosevelt High School and IBM Tech School. Once he graduated from high school he worked at the Farmers Bank.
Tom retired after working at IBM from 1955 to 1990 as a Technique. Tom worked at IBM East Fishkill and IBM Poughkeepsie and while working at IBM he worked on the Apollo 13 project.
A local resident all his life, he was a member of St. Martin dePorres Church and a volunteer at Mt. Alvernia.
Tom was an Alumni of Roosevelt High Schools Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted in 2000. He was an avid golfer and was one of the original members of the SMP.
Tom got a hole in one at the Red Hook Golf Club; he was a founding member of the Town of Poughkeepsie Pop Warner Club.
He also was the Coach of the Eagles, the Town of Poughkeepsie Saturday morning Basketball and a minor league coach of the Town of Poughkeepsie Baseball. He bowled in the Delaware Bowling League and received the 700 club award for a 727 in 1990 and 1991.
As Tom's grandchildren got involved with sports, (Lacrosse, Basketball, Baseball and Girls Basketball), he always attended their sports activities.
Tom was a Veteran in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and received a certificate of appreciation from the Korean War Veterans and he was a member of the American Legion Lafayette Post.
Tom is survived by his wife Janice at home in Poughkeepsie, he children; Thomas and his wife Colleen of Red Hook, NY, Timothy and his wife Gina Daley of Poughkeepsie, NY, Brian Daley of Poughkeepsie, NY, Kevin Daley and his companion Reberta Petrone of Pleasant Valley, NY and his daughter Sharon M. Daley. Tom is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel, Samuel Richard, Alexander R., and Tanya Daley, brother and sister in-law James and Fay Daley and his sister Gertrude Trani and her companion Edward Blodgett.
Tom was predeceased by a son, Richard A. Daley in 1953 and his brother in-law Frederick Trani.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday May 19, 2011, from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:15am at St. Martin dePorres Church Friday May 20, 2011. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Poughkeepsie.
The family would like thank Hospice for all the care that was given to Tom, especially Randy Briggs.
