Obituary of G. Enright
G. Lorraine S. Enright died on February 12, 2009 at the age of 75. Born February 6, 1934 in Derby, CT, she was the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Asburg G.E. Stromberg and Lelia Binger. Lorraine's father, a Methodist minister, was from a family of ministers who had given a total of 300 years to the ministry. Her mother was a nurse. With these roots, her life was one of service to others and participation in her community. She spent her childhood in Mamaroneck and was a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1957. She was the widow of Frank Enright who predeceased her in 1992. An alumni of Drew University and SUNY New Paltz, Mrs. Enright held various teaching positions with the Dutchess County BOCES. Active in her community, she held office in various boards. Most enjoyable were the years in the Spackenkill School District where she was an officer of the P.T.A., the Taconic District PTA and a Life member of the NY State Congress of Parents and Teachers. An avid gardener, she exhibited, with her children for over a decade at the Dutchess County Fair where she won many blue ribbons. Lorraine was a member of the Dutchess County Garden Study Club, a docent at Locust Grove, delivered "Meals on Wheels", chairperson of the Ladies of the Elks, and member of BPOE #275 Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Enright also served on the board of Fox Hill III and the Fox Hill Community Association. Lastly, she was involved with the New York State grant for the preservation of records at the Town of Poughkeepsie. She leaves behind three children, Deborah Haalan of Stanfordville, Dean Enright of Clinton Corners and his fiancee Bonnie Pulver, Ellen Vassallo and her husband, Dominick of Wappingers Falls. She also leaves grandchildren, Sven Haaland, Kirsten Haaland, Hans Haaland, Lea DiCocco, Ryan Wheatley, Ashley Wheatley and Lauren Vassallo and one great-grandchild, Kai Haaland, and a brother, Oliver Stromberg of Centreville. Her sister, Lee Zaleski of Mattituck predeceased her. Those who wish to may make a contribution to the Humane Society at 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 from 10 to 12 Noon at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A service will be held at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
