Obituary of Jihaad Griffin

Jihaad Griffin, born on March 3, 2007, passed away. On February 15th, 2011, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, God called his angel home. He was truly a miracle that touched many hearts. He was a beautiful, kind, and bright young boy with a lot of courage and strength. "Here my cry o God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to you. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Jihaad reminded us all that life is precious and should not be taken for granted. He was the son of Nicole Cummings and Ashanti Griffin; his stepfather father is Rhanshan Davis. Other survivors include his siblings; Jahyare, Jahnya, Kareema, Faheim, Azim and Khalil, all of Poughkeepsie, NY. He is also survived by his grandmothers; Karen Cummings and Darlene Williams; and great grandmother Janice Cummings. His uncles Karam (Tasha) and Kareem (Michelle). Aunts Carla, Yvette, Luana "Di-Di", Charlie, Willie, Joi, Marian and Janelle and godmother, Charlene. Jihaad is also survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones. A very special thanks to Westchester Medical Center's PICU staff, Vassar Brother's Medical staff; Dr. Fish, Dr. Seth and nurses Diane, Adriane, Susan, Diane and Home Health Nurse Helen. Astor Head Start staff and all those who have helped in any way is appreciated beyond words. A family statement reads: "Jihaad, you not only changed my life, but the lives of all who were blessed to have known you. We shared a wonderful life together. You made my day manageable and showed me how to fight for what's important. You were a great example and were the strongest "little" son that I have ever known. You've made me appreciate life and you will always be my "HERO". Mommy loves you more than words can say and I will always miss you." Services for Jihaad will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie, NY on Monday February 21, 2011. Viewing will be 10 to 11am and funeral services following at 11am. Reverend E.
