Obituary of Joseph Grogan

Joseph W. Grogan, 76, of Town of LaGrange, died December 8, 2008 at home. He had been a civil engineer for the Town of Poughkeepsie and was also the Director of Engineering for Dutchess County. He retired in 1998. A local resident for 46 years, he previously resided in Pawling, NY. Mr. Grogan was a member of American Society of Civil Engineers and New York State Licensed Professionals Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Army and was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church. He was a big fan of baseball and loved the New York Yankees. Born May 31, 1932 in Hudson, NY, he was the son of Louis and Loretta DePasquale Grogan. He was a graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in civil engineering. On April 4, 1964 at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, NY, he married Ellen J. Clarkin. Mrs. Grogan survives at home. In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Michael Walsh of Gainesville, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Darcy Grogan of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Lisa Grogan of Hyde Park, NY, grandchildren, Daniel, Taylor and Olivia Grogan, Connor Walsh and Eli Grogan; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Betty Grogan of Pawling, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Angelica Clarkin of Brewster, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and a cousin. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and George Grogan. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 from 4-8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at 10:00am at St. Martin de Porres Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, LaGrange Ave., Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
