Obituary of Frances Grunbok
Frances Patricia Grunbok " Pat" passed away February 15, 2011 in Poughkeepsie, NY due to the complications of Sjogrens syndrome.
Born January 14, 1926 in Astoria, NY she was the second child of Francis" Frank" Sliwinski and Anna Hruby. Pat attended Brooklyn college and graduated with a BS in chemistry. Quite the alternative path for a woman in 1948.
After college she worked in the food industry for Fred Fear and Jack Frost Sugar during which she met and married Warren Grunbok in 1951. They most recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 27th. She was always know to Warren as Patsy.
During her life she enjoyed classical music( especially Brahms and Chopin) , playing piano, tennis and various outdoor activities. She and Warren spent many years square dancing together and met many dear life long friends. They belonged to numerous local square dance clubs , and she was long time president of the Do-C -Do club in Poughkeepsie. Pat and her friends enjoyed travel to NYC to take in music and other cultural events. After retirement Pat and Warren traveled extensively throughout the lower 48 states in their travel trailer and later in their motor home. She was an avid reader , taking in literally thousand of books in her lifetime and enjoyed the poetry of Robert Frost . Pat was a lover of all animals but especially dogs. Since the passing of her last dog, Sam in 1992 she would talk regularly of how much she missed having a dog in her life.
Pat is survived by her husband Warren: daughter Janet Grunbok and her husband Chris Bury of Bainbridge Island, WA: son Warren, his wife Mary and their children Sarah, Stephen, Chris, and Nick of Poughkeepsie, NY.
She is proceeded in death by her brother Edward Sliwinski in 1996.
Visiting hours are Feb. 17, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY
A Funeral Mass will be held on Feb. 18, 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church 775 Main St. Poughkeepsie, NY
