Obituary of Joseph Gyscek
Joseph A. Gyscek, 94, a lifetime resident of City of Poughkeepsie, NY died on April 16, 2010 at the Lutheran Care Center. He was an Expediter, working at IBM in Poughkeepsie and after his retirement in 1988 he worked at the McCann Golf Course in Poughkeepsie. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corps., in WWII, a member of St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, an avid golfer and was also in the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. He was born on February 2, 1916 in Poughkeepsie, NY, the son of Lawrence Gyscek and Theresa Kovacs. He attended Poughkeepsie High School. He married Jean W. Cavanaugh on August 24, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. His wife predeceased him on March 28, 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Kenline, of Chander, AZ, his daughter and son in law; Pamela and Mark Sullivan, Yarmouthport, MA, his son and daughter in law; Joseph and Barbara Gyscek, Mahopac, NY, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, his brother and sister in law, Steve and Kay Gyscek of Hyde Park and his sisters Sue Gyscek, Betty Sears and Rita Kondor, all of Hyde Park, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church on April 20, 2010 at 10am. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpoke, Poughkeepsie, NY. Calling hours will be on Monday April 19, 2010 from 5-7pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
