Obituary of Alvin Harris

Alvin W. Harris, 82, of Town of Hyde Park, died June 17, 2008 at Fernclifff Nursing Home. A lifetime local resident, he was a mechanic operator for Central Hudson in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1988. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of VFW Vail Wolfe Post. Mr. Harris was born Sept. 12, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, NY. On Feb. 17, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, he was married to Leta Scutt. He is survived by son and daughterin-law, David and Susan Harris, Pleasant Valley, NY; son and daughter-in-law, John and Charlene Harris, Poughkeepsie, NY; son, Gary Harris, Tacoma, WA; daughter, Diane Harris, Massachusetts; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Brian Harris. Calling hours will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 from 10am to 11am at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral service will follow at 11am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY.
