Obituary of Lorraine Higgins

Lorraine B. Higgins, 69, loving wife of Robert W. Higgins, Jr., left this world August 4, 2010. Lorraine Barbara Splain was born in Poughkeepsie November 3, 1940 to Philip and Theresa Splain. She attended Poughkeepsie schools where she played clarinet in the marching band. She attended Dutchess Community College. In 1964 she and her young family moved to the Village of Millbrook where they lived for Fifteen years before moving to Lagrangeville. She served as President and CEO of LB Higgins Fire Protection, Inc., a family run business, which she ran with her husband until her retirement in 2008. A voracious reader, she would often have several books going at the same time. Her favorite summertime activity was listening to live music at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Massachusetts, where she and her husband enjoyed nearly one hundred shows over the past twenty years Survivors, in addition to her husband, Robert, include four sons: Gary Higgins and wife, Rebecca, Hull, Massachusetts, Robert W. Higgins, lll and wife, Stacey, Clinton Corners, N.Y., Daniel Higgins, Millbrook, N.Y. and David Higgins, Lagrangeville N.Y. She also left six grandchildren and one great grandchild: Samantha Higgins and her daughter Liliana, Red Hook, N.Y., Zachary and Jacob Higgins, Clinton Corners, N.Y., Chloe, Aubrey and Daniel Higgins Jr., Millbrook, N.Y. She is the loving sister of Colleen Vantassell, Pleasant Valley, N.Y. and Louise Thorne, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. who survive, and brother, George Splain, who predeceased her. A small and intimate gathering for close family and friends will be Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 5pm to 8pm at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave. in Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Mt Caramel Church, Poughkeepsie, Monday, August 9, 2010 at 9:30am.
