Obituary of Anthony Hlavacek

Anthony Richard Hlavacek, 83, passed peacefully away on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY surrounded by his family. He was born January 13, 1928 to Dorothea and Anton Hlavacek in Brooklyn, NY. On August 20, 1950, Anthony married Margaret Zorn Hlavacek, the "Peg of his Heart" at Trinity Lutheran Church, Astoria, N.Y. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary with their family this past year. Along with his wife, he is also survived by his loving children, Caryl Morris and her husband Thomas of Poughkeepsie, Kathryn Hlavacek-Horvath and her husband Thomas of Stormville, Richard Hlavacek and his wife Paula of Poughkeepsie, and Elizabeth Frye of Wappingers Falls. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Justin Frye and his wife Gina, Joseph Horvath, Krista Horvath, Melanie Frye, Thomas Horvath, Brittney Frye, Andrew Morris and Cathryn Morris. He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Nytalya, Aidyn, and Dominic. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Keller. As a Private 1st Class, he served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America; he received his Honorable Discharge in 1947. Anthony was a graduate of Pratt Institute where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He worked for IBM East Fishkill and retired in 1989. He was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, where he served as teacher, journal editor, greeter and many other needed functions of the church. His favorite hobby was bowling. Pastor Daniel Ward of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a private service at the family's request. Anthony's interment will be at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Memorial Donations can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
