Hello Rosemarie, This is Kim that worked for Dr. Wengrofsky. I just saw the notice about your father in the Poughkeepsie Jrnl. I wanted to give my condolences to you and your family. God bless you all at this time, and keep him in your heart forever...

Grandpa was able to turn a small Bronx backyard into a mini wonderland of flowers and vegetables with a perfectly mowed lawn in the center. A florist by trade, he was an artist at heart. His skills were highlighted regularly as he created window displays at the florist shop. He touched our familyâs life with flowers for every important occasion. In fact, by the time Denise had her Communion Grandpa was retired but there was no way his youngest granddaughter would not have a specially made bouquet. He worked out a deal with a friend to complete the job. This hinted at the big heart Grandpa had. Fourth of July celebrations at my cousinsâ house in Poughkeepsie always included a trip to the Friendlyâs Ice Cream shopâGrandpaâs treat. Grandpa also had us have a special diving competition--one year, Silver Dollars; another year, a bag for each kid filled with silver coins (yes silver coins Grandpa had saved in the freezer so the story goes). Some pictures of Grandpa in my headâin the garden; breaking off hedge branches so we could roast marshmallows; playing poker; smoking his pipe; diving into the pool; enjoying a real Italian meal; and dancing with Nana at so many wonderful celebrations. I want my children to remember my Grandpa John as someone that knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and make the world more beautiful. I will always be able to hear his laugh and imagine he and Nana dancing- gliding across the floor.
