Obituary of Howard Long
Howard M. Long, age 77, Poughkeepsie died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at home. Howard was born November 29, 1933 in Lackawanna, NY the son of the late Howard B. and the late Loretta (Morrison) Long. He married Barbara K. Leonard October 22, 1955 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Rochester NY. He served in the United States Army in the 270th Armored Field Artillery Division during the Korean War. He retired from the NYS Dept of Transportation Real Estate Division as a Sr. Right of way Agent in 1991. Howard was a member of Poughkeepsie Elks #275, he held the positions of Exalted Ruler, Past Exalted Ruler, Past State Trustee, Past President of the PER Association and a 12 member of the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Moose lodge, Lodge #904 of Hyde Park. Howard was a member of St. MaryâÂÂs Church Poughkeepsie. He loved to collect model cars, loved photography and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: Barbara K. (Leonard) Long at home, son and daughter in-law Michael H. and Diane Long of Poughkeepsie and Auburn NY, daughter and son in-law Michelle K. and Charles Brotman of Raleigh North Carolina and two sons Mitchell J. Long of Walnut Creek California and Mark S. Long of Poughkeepsie. Howard is also survived by six grandchildren, Kristan Sheppard, Jessica, Brendan, Gregory Anthony, Stephanie and two great grandchildren, Daniel Michael Sheppard and Abigail Marie Sheppard. Calling hours will be Friday July 22, 2011 from 4pm to 6pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York. The funeral will be 9am Saturday July 23, 2011 at St. Mary's Church, Church Street, Poughkeepsie where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Entombment will be at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in HowardâÂÂs name to Cerebral Palsy Assoc. 330 West 34th Street 15th Floor New York, New York .
