Obituary of Anna Matthews
Anna M. Matthews, 85, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie for 44 years, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. On April 13, 1923, in Hampton Bays, Long Island, NY, the late Everett and Mae Hand gave birth to a "Beautiful Anna". She graduated in 1941 from Hampton Bays High School and was one of the three cheerleaders at her school. On March 21, 1943, she married the love her life, Irving "Buddy" Matthews. They were blessed with three loving and caring daughters, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mainly a stay at home mom, she helped out with ballet classes, music lessons, girl scouts, baby sitting and attended many soccer games. Grammie's whole world was her family. She always made every holiday, birthday and occasion special. Most of the time we heard "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck". "Lot of hugs and kisses too!". Together Anna and Bud celebrated their 65th anniversary as one this year. Anna's life was a gift to all who knew her and will be cherished forever. Survived by her husband of 65 years, Irving "Buddy" Matthews, at home; three daughters, Karen Giarrusso-Ogden and Dave of New Windsor; Christine Green of Beacon; Barbara and Jack Altman of Poughkeepsie; four grandchildren, Dawn Green and her husband, Danny Green of Hyde Park; Brett Green and his wife, Cheryl Green of Phoenix, AZ; Heather Finelli and her husband, Brad Finelli of Swanton, VT; Kara Koehler and her husband, Daniel Koehler of Poughkeepsie; six great-grandchildren, Melissa Freytag-Green, Avery, Madison and Jacob Finelli, Alexis Green and Cadence Koehler.
