Obituary of Herbert McClellan

Herbert C. (Herb) McClellan, 89, passed on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Integrated Nursing Facility in Moreno Valley, California. June 11th was 34 years to the day that his beloved "Peg" passed on. Born October 13, 1918 in Ridgway, CO, he was the son of Archie C. McClellan and Nellie D. Richardson . He graduated Valedictorian of Ridgway High School in 1936. On July 27, 1941, at Holy Trinity Church in Arlington, he married Margaret T. Buckley. She predeceased Herbert on June 11, 1974. Survivors include his children, Judy and her husband, Joe McDowell of Poughkeepsie; Mary and her husband, Charles Lauria of Clinton Corners; Cathy and her husband, Earl Gilbert of Poughkeepsie; Michael and his wife, Michelle McClellan of Raymond, ME; grandchildren, Joseph McDowell of Staatsburg; Scott and his wife, Josie of LaGrange; Ryan and his wife, Jennifer of Southington, CT; Michele Simonetty and her husband, Michael of Poughquag; Christina Cranna and her husband, Bryan of Tivoli; Maggie McClellan of Boston, MA; Pat McClellan of Raymond, ME; Colleen Gilbert of Poughkeepsie; Shawn Gilbert of Poughkeepsie; great-grandchildren, Justin and Kevin McDowell of Staatsburg; Samantha and Jesse Simonetty of Poughquag; Kieran and Shane Cranna of Tivoli; and sister-in-law, Helen B. Tompkins of Poughkeepsie. Herbert was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Charles G . Tompkins and a sister-in-law, Lela R. Buckley. Herb worked for Krugs Baking Co. in Poughkeepsie from 1938 to 1942. From 1942 to 1945, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 1709th Signal Service, 9th Air Force Battalion. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and was in Liege, Battle of the Bulge. He received several decorations and citations for his service. Herb worked for Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. retiring in 1978. He moved to Sun City, CA in 1978 , where he spent his remaining years with his wife, Lael Muller. Herb was a member of the Elks #492 in Oway, CO and was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Sun City, CO. The family would like to thank all those at Menefee Hospital, Vista, and the Integrated Nursing Care of Perris in Moreno Valley, CA, for their care and compassion. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
