Obituary of John Miller

John William Miller, 83, town of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 10, 2011. John was a devoted son, husband, father, father in-law and grandfather. On any given day, a family member was always stopping by to see John or Judy. They were always surrounded by family. John was the founder and owner of M&O Plumbing Co., Inc. in Poughkeepsie. Born in Poughkeepsie on June 24, 1927, he was the son of the late John A. and Edith M. (Ackert) Miller. John was a graduate of Arlington High School and received his degree in Sanitary Engineering from Columbia University. One June 28, 1953, John married Julia S. L. Cumming in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Miller survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters and their husbands: Gaye K. and Robert Sorrentino of Poughkeepsie, Heather E. and Butch Cimorelli of Hyde Park, and Holly A. Miller of Highland, NY. In addition he is survived by his grandchildren; Justin, Gae, Jonathan and Krista Sorrentino, Sarah, Shawn and Cole Cimorelli and Michael Zarrelli and Christian Costantini. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Grace Cumming Bouche'. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Donald A. and Mary Dean Miller, and brother-in-law Paul E. Bouche'. John was a member of the Red Oaks Mill Fire Department and a lifetime member of Elks Club #275. John found enjoyment being semi-retired and his Florida residence with his wife and family or riding around in his purple Prowler. He thoroughly enjoyed his home and property and would be seen riding his mower on his property with his grandchildren; he enjoyed his grandkids, horses, golf, cars, wood working and "scaring squirrels"! Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 4:00 - 8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10:00am at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the Family.
