Obituary of Barbara Popowich

Barbara Popowich, 83, of Newburgh, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Elant at Fishkill. A lifelong area resident, she was employed as a Supervisor at AT&T. She was a past member of the Powelton Country Club. She was a Collector of Doll Houses, Miniature Furniture and she also made Miniature Furniture. Born in Barrytown, NY on Oct. 31, 1924, she was the daughter of Robert and Lillian Wasner Sullivan. She was a graduate of Wappingers High School. On March 22, 1953 she married John Popowich at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Popowich survives his wife at home. In addition, she is also survived by a son, Thomas E. Popowich of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Rita Winne of the Town of Poughkeepsie; a niece, Joan Sciortino of the Town of LaGrange; a niece, Rosemarie Williamson of Texas; and a nephew, John Horton of Liberty, NY. She was predeceased by a nephew, Robert Wasner in 2001. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 10:30 am to 12 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie.
