Obituary of Marshall Roberts

Marshall Leon Roberts passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. He was born on May 23, 1921 in Poughkeepsie, New York to Benjamin Franklin Roberts and Ethel Wood Roberts.
Marshall graduated from Franklyn Technical Institute in Boston, MA.
Marshall served in World War II in Germany, was employed for 12 years at Schatz Bearing Corporation and retired from IBM after 35 years as an electrical engineer. He was a Mason affiliated with Nimrod Lodge No. 96. He served 8 years on the Dutchess County Legislative Board, 6 years on the Dutchess County Youth Board and served as chairman of the Model Cities Finance Committee and on the City of Poughkeepsie Planning Board. He also served as chairman of the City of Poughkeepsie 3rd Ward City Democratic Committee, and in 1989 he was honored with the Black AchieverâÂÂs Award in politics.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife, Loretta Roberts and son, Marshall Roberts, Jr.
He is survived by his children Wanda Abbott of Atlanta, Ga; Eileen Roberts of Poughkeepsie, NY; Michael B. Roberts (Wanda) of Waco, Tx; Vernon Roberts of St. Louis, Mo., and Lisa Roberts of Atlanta, Ga., and stepchildren: Doreen L. Henry, Tina M. Futrell and Cheryl D. Carter of Poughkeepsie, NY, his sister, Shirley L. DeLoatch of Poughkeepsie, NY., several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
There is no cure for life or death, save to enjoy the interval. Marshall did just that.
